Two-Day “Infrastructures in International Relations” Workshop Concludes

Organized by Professor Austin Strange, Director of the MIPA (Master of International and Public Affairs) Program at the University of Hong Kong, the “Infrastructures in International Relations” workshop came to a successful close on 23 May.

The workshop provided a unique and valuable opportunity to gauge how a diverse group of researchers from the University of Hong Kong and around the world are studying a large menu of infrastructures in international relations – from international development projects to undersea cables, to hyperscalers – using diverse conceptualizations and approaches.

Professor Strange emphasized that “This weekend is an initial starting point and conversation that will help participants refine their own work and help position researchers at the University of Hong Kong to produce impactful research studying how infrastructure projects and processes are reshaping relations between states, firms, communities and other important actors.”

Nearly 30 scholars examined how various infrastructures shape international relations across technological, financial, geographical, and other dimensions during the two-day workshop.
