A new semester, a new chapter

September 1st – PPA Departmental Reception

Today’s PPA Departmental Reception celebrated new beginnings! In his keynote speech, Professor Robert Thomson, Head of PPA, announced some exciting news:

New faces

We are delighted to welcome four new faculty members to PPA: Dr. Daniel Baker Flores, Dr. Saera Lee, Dr. Hung Pham, and Dr. Mike Sadler. They are researching and teaching on a variety of topics, from international organizations, to armed nonstate governance, and from security on the Korean Peninsula to other pressing global issues.

We also warmly welcome ten new research students, who begin their research journey with PPA today — the largest research cohort in a single academic year in our history! They will pursue research in public policy, international relations, international political economy, public administration, political theory and ethics, as well as political philosophy.

In addition, we are pleased to announce that Samantha Wong, an HKU graduate and long‑time member of our staff, will step up to manage the General Office as Yannes Tang moves on to begin a new chapter in her life. The General Office also welcomes several new members who further strengthen our support for faculty and students.

New opportunities
As part of our ongoing expansion, we look forward to welcoming new professors in Public Administration and International Relations who will bring new perspectives and expertise to PPA.

These developments are bringing fresh momentum to PPA.

Earlier this week, we welcomed our newest cohort of MIPA and MPA students to PPA, with upcoming orientation activities for our undergraduate students.

Let today mark the start of a new chapter for us all!
