
Daniel Marwecki is a lecturer at the Department of Politics and Public Administration. Daniel’s teaching is broad in scope, covering many areas in development studies and international security, with a special focus on the Middle East as well as Germany and Europe. His research has so far mostly focused on German-Israeli relations. Daniel’s book Germany and Israel: Whitewashing and Statebuilding appeared first in 2020 and is now available in paperback, as well as in an expanded and updated German edition. He received his PhD from SOAS University of London in 2019. Prior to joining HKU, he had taught at the Universities of Leipzig and of Leeds, as well as at SOAS. He received the “Excellent and Inclusive Practice Award” for his teaching in 2025. Daniel has written essays and commentaries for journals and newspapers such as Le Monde Diplomatique, UnHerd, Jacobin, taz, Berlin Review of Books, E-IR, Nueva Sociedad, Aufbau, Qantara, and others.
