On June 22nd, the Department of Politics and Public Administration at HKU hosted a workshop on key developments shaping the philanthropic and nonprofit sector.

The workshop featured a keynote lecture by Professor Mark Sidel, Doyle-Bascom Professor of Law and Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, on “The Rise, Fall and Twilight of Overseas Philanthropy in China,” with Professor Hui Jing from HKU’s Faculty of Law serving as discussant.

Organized and moderated by Professor Hui Li, the workshop brought together outstanding scholars to examine governance shifts, management challenges, leadership, and organizational resilience. Participants engaged in lively discussions on how philanthropic and nonprofit activity is shaped by broader infrastructure and institutional support mechanisms.
